FAQ
What precautions should be taken before and
after treatment?
-Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before
and after treatment or keep sun
block on the area to be
treated.
- You must avoid electrolysis,
plucking, or waxing hair for
6 weeks prior to treatment.
-If you have had a history of
perioral herpes, prophylactic
antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
-If you have a dark skin type,
bleaching cream may be started
4-6
weeks before treatment to
optimize results.
-You should discuss your
desired results and the improvements
you
expect to achieve with your practitioner. Together you
can
decide if your expectations will be met and if this laser
treatment is the best option.
How many treatments will I need?
-Hair grows in cycles.
The number of treatments required depends
upon your skin color hair color, and coarseness of the hair.
Everyone will require at least 3
treatments as the process is
only effective on hair during the early growing cycle.
Repeat sessions
will be necessary to treat these follicles when
they re-enter the early growth
phase.
Are the treatments painful?
-Depending upon the
area the hair is located, there will be different
levels of sensation.
Some areas are more sensitive than others.
Generally, the sensation is the
equivalent
of a pinprick or a
sudden warmth.
How long will it take to remove all my hair?
-Many different
factors dictate the length of time necessary to effect
complete removal of
all the unwanted hair. First, hair type must
be considered. Is the
hair straight, wavy,
curly, or kinky? The
curlier the hair, the more difficult to reach the
hair papilla,
therefore, the more difficult to effect permanent removal.
A distorted
hair may have to be treated more than once before
it is effectively and
permanently removed.
-Next,
consider your skin type and the location of the hair. Naturally,
if you
have thin,
sensitive skin, electrolysis will have to be done at
a slower pace than if you
have thicker,
less sensitive skin. Even if
you effectively clear an area by
electrolysis, more hair ( the
dormant
hair) can and probably will appear in the same area within a short
period of
time. This hair is NOT treated hair reappearing, but rather
growing
hair that has not yet
reached the surface. If a hair has
been treated properly and the papilla
destroyed, this
hair can never
grow back.
-Finally,
REGULARITY of treatment is an important factor. A
regular schedule of
treatment will save you money because the
hairs will be removed in a shorter,
over-all period of time.
The proper procedure consists of frequent visits at first
to remove
visible hair. Then as the hair diminishes, there is a gradual
reduction in
visits and duration of treatment time, until you only
come in occasionally for maintenance
and
eventually, rarely or
not at all.
